Exactech Optetrak Knee and Ankle Implant Recall Lawsuits
In February 2022, Exactech, an orthopedic device company, issued a recall for their knee and ankle implants received by patients between 2004 and 2022. This alert followed an earlier recall released by Exactech in August 2021, notifying surgeons that non-conforming packaging was used to package Exactech’s knee and ankle implants. As a direct result of the improper packaging, injuries and complications occurred in many patients who received the implants.
The improper packaging has led to the premature wearing of the plastic in Exactech’s knee and ankle implants inserted in patients between 2004 and 2022. As a result, patients have reported pain, swelling and instability in knee and ankle joints, and many have even had the need for painful revision surgery.

Exactech Recall Lawsuits | What happened?
According to a February 7, 2022 notice, Darina Johnson, president and CEO of Exactech, confirmed “most of [Exactech] inserts manufactured since 2004 were packaged in out-of-specification vacuum bags”.
In the notice issued to surgeons, Exactech revealed between the years of 2004 and 2022 their knee and ankle implants were packaged in non-conforming vacuum bags that may cause parts of implants to degrade and “lead to both accelerated debris production, and bone loss, and/or component fatigue cracking/fracture, all leading to corrective revision surgery.”
Exactech is advising all doctors who have installed Exactech knee and ankle replacement systems in patients to closely monitor these patients for signs of complications or potential insert failure.

Typically, we represent clients on contingency fee agreements. If we take your case under a contingency fee arrangement, you won’t owe our firm any legal fees unless we are able to recover money for you.
Our contingency fee agreements are usually based on a percentage of the amount we recover for our clients. The contingency fee amount is determined by the type of case, our estimate of how long it will take to resolve your case, and our estimate of the litigation costs we will advance in your case. Each engagement agreement includes the details of the fee arrangement. Questions about our fee agreements are welcomed and encouraged.
In most litigation matters, it is extremely difficult – practically impossible – to predict how long it will take to resolve a particular case. Every case is different, and we will do our best to provide you with an estimate based on your case and our experience with similar cases. Moreover, we will do our best to keep you updated and manage expectations along the way.
