What Happened?
On October 21, 2022, Lake Charles Memorial Health System’s security team detected “unusual activity” involving its computer network. At that time, Lake Charles Memorial Health System conducted an internal investigation. According to a press release, on October 25, 2022 LCMHS learned that an unauthorized third party gained access to their network. After the incident occurred, LCMHS indicated that some patients’ information was potentially accessed by the third party, including “patient names, addresses, date of births, medical record or patient identification numbers, health insurance information, payment information and/or limited clinical information regarding care received at LCMH.”. Beginning December 23, 2022, LCMH began mailing letters to patients whose information may have been involved in the data breach. A copy of the template data breach notification may be found below.
