On January 9, 2017, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois granted final approval to a class action settlement in the case Volz, et al. v. Tricorp Management Company, et al.; No 16-cv-00627.
In July 2016, after a year of litigation, the parties reached a class settlement which provides for a settlement fund of $350,000.00 for a class of 2800 former employees of Tricorp Management Company, a former T.G.I. Friday’s franchisee.
In September 2016, the Court preliminarily approved the class settlement and approved the notice plan proposed by the parties. According to Court documents, notice was sent to over 2800 former Tricorp Management Company employees.
When asked about the settlement, class counsel, attorney Brandon M. Wise of Peiffer Wolf Carr & Kane commented that “the settlement approved by the Court provides meaningful relief to 2800 class members. I am very pleased with the result reached in the case, and am glad that so many people will benefit from the settlement.” The main plaintiff in the matter, Jania Volz commented “I am very pleased with the settlement. I’m just ecstatic that a small voice can make a difference. Always trust your instincts. I’m glad that this settlement will held not just myself, but many others, too. To be the voice of my coworkers and friends has been a humbling journey.”
