WHAT HAPPENED?
According to a report, on May 29, 2023, PBI, a third-party vendor that provides services to pension funds on confirming participants’ deaths to ensure proper payments and prevent overpayments, and its systems were involved in a mass exploit of a vulnerability in a secure file transfer system. On June 4, PBI confirmed that the incident involved files containing the personal information of some Talcott Resolution participants and beneficiaries. Personal information that was exposed included: names and Social Security numbers.
According to the report from the Attorney General of Maine, the information that was subject to unauthorized access includes names and Social Security numbers.
